After spending time connecting with children and serving at the orphanage yesterday, our team was ready for their next challenge—and this one meant rolling up their sleeves, getting their hands dirty and learning how much can be accomplished when everyone works together.
From the Ground Up 🔨
For many of our students, participating in a house build is something they have never experienced before.
Today was about learning.
Our students worked alongside members of the local community, learning new skills, asking questions and jumping in wherever an extra set of hands was needed.
There were unfamiliar tasks and plenty of opportunities to step outside their comfort zones. But with every job completed, our students began to see the progress that can happen when a group of people comes together around one shared goal.
Little by little, the house began to take shape.
The People Behind the Project 🧡
While it's exciting to watch the physical progress of a house being built, we want our students to remember something even more important:
This isn't simply a construction project.
At the end of this build is a family who will call this place home.
That changes the meaning behind every task.
Throughout the Xperience Humaniti program, we encourage our students to look beyond the work in front of them and understand the people, families and communities connected to it.
Our goal isn't to arrive and simply do something for a community. It's to work alongside people, learn from them and contribute to something together.
Today gave our students the opportunity to experience exactly that.
Learning Through Doing
One of the most powerful parts of experiential learning is that sometimes the biggest lessons happen when you aren't sitting in a classroom.
They're learned while trying something you've never done before.
They're learned when a task doesn't go exactly as planned.
They're learned while communicating with someone who may not speak the same language.
And they're learned when you're tired, hot and dirty but look around and realize that your team is counting on you to keep going.
Those are the moments when our three guiding words come to life:
Serve. Learn. Lead.
Today our students served through their work, learned from the people around them and demonstrated leadership by contributing as part of a team.
More Than Four Walls
Over the coming days, we'll continue watching this house transform.
But we also know something else will be changing alongside it—our students.
Every new experience gives them another opportunity to build confidence, develop new perspectives, strengthen relationships with their teammates and understand what meaningful community service can look like.
By the end of this project, there will be a new home standing where our team began working today.
But the finished house won't be the only thing we take away from this experience.
There will be stories, friendships, lessons and memories attached to every part of it.
Today was only the beginning. 🔨🏠
