After students travelled from across Canada and the United States to meet in New York, our full team came together for the first time to complete orientation and prepare for what lies ahead.
Tomorrow morning, we head to the Dominican Republic. 🇩🇴
From a Group of Students to a Team
Orientation is an important part of every Xperience Humaniti trip. Before we step into the communities we’ll be working alongside, we want our students to understand not only what we’re going to do, but why we’re doing it.
Throughout orientation, students had the opportunity to meet their fellow participants, connect with their leaders, review expectations, and learn more about the experiences ahead.
We talked about safety, cultural awareness, teamwork, communication and what it means to represent Xperience Humaniti while travelling and serving internationally.
Most importantly, we introduced the mindset that will guide us throughout this experience:
Serve. Learn. Lead.
Our students aren’t travelling to the Dominican Republic simply to complete service projects. They’re going to listen, learn, build relationships and work alongside local people and our on-the-ground partners.
The Beginning of Something Bigger
There was plenty of excitement in the room tonight—and understandably so.
For some students, this is their first humanitarian experience. For others, it may be their first time travelling without their families or being immersed in a completely different culture.
Over the coming days, they’ll be challenged to step outside their comfort zones, work as a team, experience a different way of life and discover what leadership can look like when it’s rooted in service.
And tonight, we got our first glimpse of the team they are becoming.
Different cities. Different schools. Different backgrounds.

With orientation complete, there’s only one thing left to do tonight: get some sleep!
Tomorrow morning, the team packs up once again and heads to the airport to begin the next leg of our journey.
Soon, we’ll be touching down in the Dominican Republic and meeting the people who will become such an important part of our Xperience Humaniti story.
The months of planning, fundraising, meetings, paperwork and preparation have all led to this moment.
Tomorrow, the real adventure begins.
